About the Item
An impressive PAIR of solid wood Egyptian Revival chairs with gilt accents and leopard paw feet. Under the leopard paw feet copper casings. In many respects this is the most aesthetically satisfying chairs from the tomb of king Tutankhamun. Believed to be based on the king’s throne, the back panel of this chair shows the figure of “Heh”, god of eternity, with the ankh symbol hooked along his right arm. The similarities to the throne are most evident in the lower part of the chairs, including the leopard paw legs.
This chairs are a more recent example (1950 - 1960) of the Egyptian inspired furniture that became very popular around the 1930s - at the time that Howard Carter discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun during his archaeological expeditions. This revival piece was made around 1955. It is a very heavy piece and in good vintage condition.

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. Condition : visible wear according to its age of 60 to 70 years; some lacquer missing at the back panel. The chair still is very stable and sturdy. It has an antique look because of the described imperfections.
