About the Item

Klaus Grabe model C5 chaise longue, designed 1948.,,, Extremely early model of this classic chaise.. my guess ,,early 1950s,, Appears the webbing has been replace (some time ago), some plywood edge damage visible,, Amazing design,, Hand delivery avail to New York City or anywhere en route from Buffalo NY,, The Bauhaus Educated Grabe left Germany in the 1930s along with many other alumni and professors of the legendary design school. He traveled first to Mexico, where he joined Bauhaus friends Josef and Anni Albers, and Hannes and Lena Meyer. Grabe then moved to New York, where he began to design the simply-constructed plywood furniture that he is best known for. Many of these designs utilized surplus webbing from the war. Others, such as Jens Risom, utilized these surplus materials in their early post war designs as well.
