About the Item

An exceptional and most unique French early 19th century Regence st. giltwood Récamier chaise. The chaise is raised by six elegant cabriole legs with top carvings of flowers and the scalloped shaped apron displays a central Rocaille reserve amidst a carved decorative band. The apron also is decorated by a top elegant carved band of cabochons. The upholstered scalloped back has double S scrolled arms with acanthus leaf carvings. The arms lead to the arbalest shaped back with a central reserve flanked by additional foliate scrolls. The chaise leads to the upholstered removable footboard in a similar design as the headboard with wonderful double S scrolls and an arbalest center with richly carved flowers. Upholstered in a shagreen fabric.
