About the Item

This exceptional FK-87 Grasshopper chaise lounge by Preben Fabricius and Jørgen Kastholm for Alfred Kill International is an authentic, early-production 1960s example... not one of the later reproductions by Lange Production that now circulate widely on the market. With so many dealers listing the newer models as “original,” early examples like this have become increasingly scarce and highly sought after by serious collectors, designers, and art investors. The appeal of true Alfred Kill production lies not only in precision craftsmanship and superior materials, but also in the unmistakable patina, aging, and construction details that confirm its period manufacture. The wear, leather character, and hand-finished elements seen here are precisely what collectors look for when distinguishing a genuine FK-87 from a later reproduction. Lange’s re-editions, while visually similar, lack the tactile richness, nuanced aging, and historical relevance that define an authentic 1960s Grasshopper. This example showcases the iconic FK-87 Grasshopper silhouette, defined by its sculptural bent steel frame with elegant arcs and structural tension, paired with the signature canvas sling laced in a classic corset-style detail. The original channel-tufted leather cushions provide both comfort and unmistakable authenticity, while the beautifully patinated leather-wrapped armrests further confirm its early Alfred Kill production. Together, these elements embody the refined minimalism and ergonomic sensitivity that established Fabricius Kastholm as two of the most respected designers of the Danish modern and 20th-century architectural furniture movements. Unlike the numerous Lange Production versions easily found online, authentic Alfred Kill Grasshoppers hold true collectible and investment value. They are prized by architects, museum-level collectors, dealers, and tastemakers who insist on original provenance and period-correct detail. This FK-87 Grasshopper chaise is a quintessential connoisseur’s piece, ideal for a sophisticated interior, design collection, or architectural environment. Whether used in a living room, study, penthouse, reading nook, or executive office, it offers both sculptural impact and exceptional comfort. With original examples becoming increasingly difficult to source, this is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the most important lounge chairs of the 20th century. MEASUREMENTS: H 32.25" x W 28.5" x D 58" Seat Height: 8" to 15.5" Seat Depth: 38" Arm Height: 17" CONDITION: Beautifully patinated and aged. The leather has apparent age characterized by fading, patina, creasing, discolorations, scratches and scuffs - however no visible rips or tears. This example does not have a head bolster pillow however a new one can be made upon request. Canvas has discoloration, fading, prior repair, scratches and scuffs, light staining and general patina, age and wear.
