About the Item

A striking and exceptionally rare rocking chaise designed by Richard Meier for Knoll International (circa 1982), this sculptural lounge piece beautifully captures Meier’s architectural language, crisp geometries, rhythmic structure, and a sense of weightlessness achieved through thoughtful engineering. Originally introduced as part of the Richard Meier Collection for Knoll, the chaise is one of the designer’s most celebrated furniture forms, coveted by collectors, architects, and enthusiasts of postmodern American design. Signed with Meier's signature on the underside of the top frame (see photos). This example has been newly reupholstered in Edelman Leather’s premium “All-Grain" hide in "Dusty Rose” colorway, a luxurious Italian full-grain leather known for its soft hand, rich tonal depth, and exceptional longevity. The elegant channel-tufted surface reinforces the chaise’s sculptural silhouette while offering sumptuous comfort. The beautiful dusty pink coloration introduces a refined yet playful sophistication, offering an unexpected pop of color that feels both modern and timeless. The underlying frame, Meier’s distinctive grid-constructed rocker base in maple, expresses the architect’s fascination with structure and translucency. The interplay of open latticework and continuous curves gives the piece a sense of movement, even at rest, making it as visually compelling as it is inviting. DESIGN HIGHLIGHTS: - Designed by Richard Meier for Knoll, part of the iconic 1980s Meier Collection - New Edelman Leather upholstery in Dusty Rose, a high-end Italian designer leather frequently used in luxury residential and hospitality projects - Channel-tufted chaise form, sculptural and exceptionally comfortable - Architectural grid base in refinished solid maple, showcasing Meier’s signature language of order, rhythm, and structural clarity - Rocking functionality that enhances the lounge experience and underscores the design’s kinetic form - A rare and signed collectible example, ideal for both design purists, collectors and investors and interior designers seeking a standout statement piece This rocking chaise makes a striking centerpiece in a variety of interiors, from Postmodern, Contemporary, and Minimalist settings to Scandinavian Modern or Art Deco revival spaces. The soft pink Edelman leather pairs beautifully with white lacquer or maple furnishings, sculptural lighting in the spirit of Ingo Maurer or Isamu Noguchi, marble or travertine accents, and contemporary art or bold geometric carpets. Equally suited for a living room, reading nook, bedroom suite, creative studio, or gallery-like loft, it also carries strong commercial appeal for boutique hotels, private lounges, luxury retail environments, and executive offices. A highly collectible and architecturally significant design, it has been thoughtfully refinished and is ready to be enjoyed for decades to come. MEASUREMENTS: H 26.5" x W 28.5" x D 73" Seat Height: 18.5" (the mid-point of chaise) CONDITION: Newly reupholstered in luxurious Edelman Italian leather ("All-Grain" in "Dusty Rose" colorway). Frame was lightly refinished. Some age apparent on the wood frame underneath the refinish which exhibits as minor splotchiness to color. Presents beautifully and ready for immediate use.

Loveseat Sofa by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani Italy, c 1970, Signed
By Claudio Salocchi, Sormani
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This newly reupholstered loveseat sofa by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani, circa 1970s, features a graceful chrome frame with nubby white bouclé fabric. Signed with 1960s/ 1970s Sormani label as shown in photo gallery. *Note, we have the matching pair of club chairs available in another listing. The graceful frame shares a design quality with Cassina's LC2 / LC3 design by Le Corbusier, as they are 'buckets of cushions' in similar fashion and comfort. However this Sormani sofa features some unique subtle details, such as the slight "twist" in the rear legs (see photos). Signed with a Sormani label, this particular rare design is attributed to Claudio Salocchi. While there were several other famous designers who created works for Sormani in this time period, the style best matches Salocchi's work. For collectors looking for something unique and rare within a collection of 1960s/ 1970s Italian designs, this pair two-seater couch is an amazing opportunity. This Cassina LC2 / LC3 loveseat...
