About the Item

This exceptional chaise longue was part of Karl Lagerfeld’s personal collection in his Place Saint-Sulpice apartment, Paris, during the early 1970s—a period when he championed the Art Deco revival alongside Parisian avant-garde designers such as Yves Saint Laurent and Marcel Rochas. Designed by Jean Rousseau and Pierre Lardin, master craftsmen trained in the esteemed Ruhlmann workshop, this méridienne exemplifies the modernized interpretation of Ruhlmann’s iconic “Rodier” model, developed by Rousseau and Lardin through their HEREL company following Ruhlmann’s passing. Crafted in amaranth wood with gilt bronze accents, this piece has been meticulously reupholstered in a luxurious linen and silk fabric designed by E.J. Ruhlmann, titled Les Ondes, reissued exclusively by Prelle in Lyon. A unique, signed masterpiece that embodies the elegance of 1930s Parisian high fashion and design that was revived in the 1970s.
