About the Item

Chaise longue Model called “Nobody”, made of amboyna burl, with gable-style legs and ivory-like decorations and sabots. Created around 1916, at the same time as a corner cabinet in amboyna burl with a decoration titled “Au Vase Fleuri.” Stamped twice “Ruhlmann.” Recently reupholstered in a Prelle fabric designed by Ruhlmann and sourced from the archives of the Manufacture Prelle. The only known example to date. Registered under No. 353 NR in the Ruhlmann archives. Provenance: March 6, 1983, Sotheby’s Parke Bernet Monaco S.A., Arts Décoratifs Styles 1900 et 1925, lot 133. Émile-Jacques Ruhlmann (1879-1933) was a French furniture designer and interior decorator and one of the most important and influential figures of the Art Deco movement, even considered by some the godfather of French Art Deco. His designs are characterized through elegance and purity of form, made with precious materials and expert craftsmanship, combining luxuriousness with modernity.
