About the Item

This stunning, plush fabric looks like strata along a rock cliff. The alternating geological colors in the veining are the perfect harmony of abstract modernism and natural beauty. The button tufting adds a classic, tailored accent that brings it all together. Labeled “Selig, made in Denmark”, and designed by Finn Andersen, and often attributed to Ib Kofod-Larsen,. Original orbit casters on front legs offer practical function, movement and form. Exquisite finger-joint detail on the backs, connect long, bowed architectural spanners and blade-arms that culminate the unique barrel shape. Extremely comfortable and wider than most Danish lounge chairs. These heirloom quality pieces are functional art, something a weary body and an adoring eye can enjoy. Andersen has transformed the ordinary to the extraordinary with his take on the lounge chair. A rare and beautifully restored pair of barrel-back lounge chairs designed by Finn Andersen for Selig, these pieces combine sculptural form with sumptuous comfort. Each chair measures approximately 29¾ inches (75.5 cm) in width, 28 inches (71 cm) in depth, and 27 inches (69 cm) in overall height, with a seat height of about 16 inches (41 cm) — proportions that offer a commanding presence while also inviting relaxed repose. The design is distinguished: a curved barrel-back silhouette with button tufting on the backrest for a tailored elegance; finger-jointed detailing across the rear frame that connects long bowed spanners to sculpted blade-arms, creating an architectural drama without aggression. The fronts of the chairs are fitted with original orbit casters on the front legs, offering graceful mobility as well as visual interest. These chairs have been expertly reupholstered in a fabric whose veining evokes geological strata—earthy tones that alternate in abstract bands, marrying modern abstraction with natural beauty. The walnut wood frames have been delicately touched up and detailed, retaining their warm grain while showing only light wear in keeping with age and refined restoration—not flaws but markers of an heirloom lineage. Stamped with the “Selig, made in Denmark” label and designed by Finn Andersen, these chairs occupy a unique position in mid-century Danish modern collection circles. They are frequently misattributed elsewhere to other designers, but the craftsmanship and signature features—including casters and joinery—confirm original attribution and elevate their pedigree. These chairs are not merely furniture but objects of art and comfort that can anchor sophisticated interiors: flank a low modernist ottoman, pair them in a reading alcove, or let them stand alone as statement pieces in a gallery-like room. For collectors who prize originality, sculptural form, and tactile beauty, this pair is a rare opportunity—one to own both aesthetic power and historical resonance. Expertly restored. The walnut wood has been delicately touched up and detailed.
