About the Item

Rare easy chair by Gérard Gallet (1934–1999) for Mobilier International, France, circa 1980. A refined and exclusive piece, made in a small number, characterized by sleek octagonal and diamond-shaped lines. Gérard Gallet was known for the chic avant-garde interiors he created for the Parisian elite. Gallet graduated from the École Boulle, a leading institution in fine craftsmanship, and began his career at Mobilier International, where he headed the design office for several years. In 1964, he opened his own agency, serving a private clientele as well as important offices and prestigious hotels. His created distinguished, rich interiors in which different periods and styles were combined in a distinctive and elegant way. The chair is upholstered in a premium mohair velvet from the collection of Pierre Frey. It offers excellent comfort thanks to the gently tilted backrest that flows seamlessly into the armrests, combined with a high-quality internal construction using traditional metal springs and top-grade materials. Part of the French Mobilier National collection. In excellent condition.
