A rare and highly decorative pair of 18th-century Chinese Chippendale-style corner chairs, expertly hand-carved and retaining their richly layered original polychrome and parcel-gilt decoration. Each chair exemplifies the bold, exotic elegance of the Chippendale taste for the East, with intricate detailing, pierced splats, and shaped stretchers, all raised on cabriole legs ending in stylized feet.
Painted in soft tones with delicate gilded highlights, the chairs display a warm patina and surface texture that can only come with over two centuries of age. Upholstered drop-in seats covered in leather complete the presentation.
