About the Item
This elegant and truly exceptional Viennese Biedermeier recamiere / daybed, crafted circa 1825, represents the very finest qualities of early 19th-century Austrian design.
Viennese Biedermeier furniture is renowned for its refined proportions, understated elegance, superb craftsmanship, and timeless aesthetic—qualities that continue to have a profound influence on modern and contemporary design. This large and early example beautifully demonstrates how remarkably modern Biedermeier forms appear, even nearly 200 years later.
The daybed is crafted in cherry wood with original veneer, highlighted by a warm, light amber tone and a rich, naturally developed patina acquired over two centuries. The upholstery was carefully selected to complement and enhance the warmth of the cherry wood. The piece is not only visually striking, but also very comfortable, making it both a functional and sculptural addition to an interior.
This exceptional recamiere comes from a distinguished collection formerly belonging to Lichtenau Castle near Vienna, adding notable historical provenance.
The piece is in very good condition. It has been professionally restored in our Vienna workshop using original period techniques and traditional materials, fully respecting its historical integrity. The surface retains its French polish finish, contributing to its depth, warmth, and authenticity.
A Certificate of Authenticity is included.
For our U.S. clients, we offer air freight delivery at a discounted flat rate of $1,700. Air transport is the safest method for fine antiques and includes full insurance.
