About the Item

This Bauhaus tubular steel couch was produced circa 1934 by the Czechoslovak manufacturer Rudolf Slezák as a company design. The piece reflects the functional and reduced design principles characteristic of Bauhaus-era tubular steel furniture. The construction features a chrome-plated tubular steel frame combined with leather upholstery in a deep bottle-green tone. Both the metal frame and the leather surfaces show an authentic, well-preserved patina consistent with age and original use, contributing to the character of the piece. Designed with versatility in mind, the couch can be used both as a sofa and as a daybed or guest bed—an approach typical of early modern furniture concepts in the 1930s. The proportions and restrained material palette make it suitable for both private interiors and architectural or collector-oriented settings.
