This unique daybed by Mallorca-based designer Nico Guevara is handcrafted from solid walnut wood and upholstered in traditional Mallorcan ikat fabric—known locally as Roba de llengües—produced by the historic textile house Teixits Riera. Presented at London Design Week 2019, the piece reflects a collaboration rooted in Mediterranean craftsmanship, blending rural austerity with refined design. The minimalist walnut frame is paired with artisanal cotton and linen fabric dyed using a centuries-old resist technique, creating its signature flame-blurred motifs. A handcrafted leather belt connects the upholstery to the structure, securing the cushion and adding a tactile element that enhances the piece’s sculptural simplicity. Embodying tradition, sustainability, and timeless Mediterranean elegance, this collectible daybed is a tribute to slow design, material authenticity, and cultural continuity.
