Hinterland Design is a studio that creates unique work for people to use, enjoy and cherish. Each piece is hand made, to order, designed and produced in our Vancouver, Canada studio. We are artists, woodworkers and craftspeople who build using natural materials. Drawing on twenty years’ experience, we believe in and stand behind our techniques, designs and finished products. To us, materials are at the heart of what we make. They provide the initial inspiration for the design, and also provide the user with an innate and ongoing connection to the natural world. We care about where we source, prizing local and healthy materials. And we care about how we treat those materials through the building process. Our environment shapes the work we do. Everything we make has a story. It starts with the materials, is shaped by the design and build, then develops through the many hands that use it throughout its lifetime. Designing and making unique objects that we are proud of, that are good for the earth and good for the people that use them is at the core of our practice.
