Gae Aulenti Kuka A very rare square daybed covered with a light grey fabric. The removable head rest behind two rectangular cushions, the seat with two long rectangular cushions. Signed underneath "mod. kuka, disegno di gae aulenti, zanotta, made in italy" and Zanotta logo. Produced by Zanotta, Italy. Circa 1972. Note The same model of this day-bed was part of Gae Aulenti's own mansion in Milan and is reproduced in various publications. Gae Aulenti (1927-2012) Born in 1927 in Palazzolo dello Stella, Gae Aulenti studied at the prestigious Politecnico di Milano. After graduating in 1954, she started a private practice interior design for corporate clients such as Olivetti, Pirelli, Knoll or Fiat. Also committed to theoretical debate, she joined the influential design magazine, Casabella, then leaded by Ernesto Nathan Rogers. Through the so-called Neo-Liberty movement, they advocated moving beyond Rationalism and defended the inclusion of cultural and historical contexts in architectural practice. Gae Aulenti was involved in many successful projects in design and architecture. Among those are the famous « Pipistrello » table lamp (1965) or the creation of the Musée d’Orsay in Paris (1986). She was also strongly committed in scenography for exhibitions or theatrical projects while also involved in teaching at the Iuav in Venice and the Politecnico di Milano. Gae Aulenti received the Japanese award, the Praemium Imperia for architecturel in 1991.

Paolo Piva Paolo Piva was born in Adria in 1950. He studied architecture at the Venice Istituto Universitario di Architettura under the direction of Carlo Scarpa and Carlo Aymonino. He practiced architecture and industrial design mainly in Italy and Austria. In 1990, he became a professor at the Hochschule für Angewande Kunst in Vienna. He designed factories in Italy, such as in Misinto for B&B Italia, galeries such as Schullin in Vienna for which he was awarded the « Adolf Loos » prize in 1994. In 1996, he designed book-shops and cafeterias for the Venetian Civic Museums. The same year, he participated in the 6th International Exhibition of Architecture at the Venice Biennale.
