About the Item

A rare and iconic example of late 20th-century Italian design, this “Grand Italia” daybed was designed by the celebrated trio De Pas, D’Urbino, and Lomazzi for Zanotta in 1979. A striking combination of industrial aesthetics and refined comfort, the piece remains a benchmark in collectible Italian modernism. The daybed features a sleek black enameled metal frame with its original leather strap detailing and updated elastic support belts for enhanced strength and durability. The generous cushions are down-filled and upholstered in supple black Italian leather that shows only minimal and characterful signs of wear consistent with age and use. The original maker’s mark — a metal Zanotta plaque — remains affixed to the frame, confirming authenticity and origin. Timeless, sculptural, and well-proportioned, this piece serves beautifully as a statement daybed, settee, or conversation bench in both residential and curated interior settings. This leather daybed is on display at the Gallery at 200 Lex at the New York Design Center.

Jean Campa Signed Abstract Aluminum Sculpture, 1992, Mounted as Coffee Table
Located in New York, NY
Jean Campa Signed Abstract Aluminum Sculpture, France, 1992. The sculpture custom mounted as a rare and exceptional coffee or cocktail table that transcends furniture design, uniting art and function in a singular statement piece. Within the table base sits an original abstract aluminum sculpture by French artist Jean Campa (1933–2024), signed and dated 1992. The expressive composition, with its folded planes and organic forms, captures Campa’s signature ability to translate rhythm and improvisation into sculptural presence. The artwork is framed within a newly constructed steel structure with brass-capped feet, topped by a striking asymmetrical and geometrical plexiglass surface. The transparent top both grounds the design and reveals the sculptural depth below, allowing light to play across the aluminum folds and emphasizing the dynamic tension between solidity and openness. More than a table, this is a signed, one-of-a-kind artwork—a centerpiece that embodies the late 20th-century avant-garde dialogue between fine art, design, and architecture. Jean Campa (1933–2024) was a French sculptor known for his distinctive cast aluminum works. An industrial designer by training, he pivoted to dental surgery but gradually dedicated himself to his artistic practice. His first works in clay were figurative, but his passion for jazz inspired him to translate musical improvisation to physical abstract forms. He frequented artists such as Gérard Schneider, Etienne Martin, Jean Villeri, René Char, André Verdet and Consuelo de...
