About the Item

Hand crafted from German steel, the 'Contemplation' daybed by German artist/designer Christoph R Siebrasse features his signature cubist steel framing with marble slabs and a generous felt cover. First designed in 1988, Contemplation is one of five ever made. An important figure in “Neues deutsches Design” [New German Design] movement of the 1980's, Siebrasse began making furniture at the age of 16 and still makes works today. In 1986, Siebrasse and his partner Rainer Schenk cofounded the "Confrontation Art Design" group and started the "Avant-garde Design Center" at the Cologne International Furniture Fair, where they first exhibited.
