About the Item
Modernist daybed with a teak frame and buttoned mattress reupholstered in linen. The mattress base sits on the original springs which are in excellent condition.This daybed is very unusual as it has the head and baseboard in metal andd feels very reminiscent of the designs of the French designer Royere. It is a stylish, well made and useful piece that would grace any home. We have two examples available sold separately.
Nordiska kompaniet (NK) was founded on 14 January 1902. In 1915, the department store on the corner of Hamngatan/Regeringsgatan was completed. The architect was Ferdinand Boberg and the builder Kreuger
Toll. The department store was built according to international models and had, among other things, Sweden's first escalator. NK was often the first to introduce new products to the Swedish market, such as jeans, nylon stockings, TVs and the Barbie doll.
In 1904, NK's workshops started in Nyköping. In the workshops, both custom-ordered furniture and mass-produced furniture were produced. The furniture was designed by various leading architects such as Carl Malmsten, E.G. Asplund and Axel Einar Hjorth. In the early 1940s, the Triva furniture developed by Elias Svedberg was presented. The furniture waselivered in flat packages and assembled by the buyer, which enabled the purchase of quality furniture for a lower price. During the 1950s, office furniture dominated manufacturing. The majority of public environments such as restaurants, banks, hotels, embassies, steamships, etc. has been furnished by NK.NK also had branches abroad in different periods, i.a. in Saint Petersburg, Moscow and in Buenos Aires. NK department stores were also opened in several places in Sweden during the 1960s and 1970s. Since 1991, NK has been a real estate company with independent specialty stores as tenants.
The documents belonging to NK that are at the Nordic Museum are mainly furniture drawings, prints and photographs. The photo collection consists of images from all of NK's business area, such as fashion images, furniture, interior design, work , images and NK's Interiors
