An unusual pair of Regency mahogany day beds in the manner of Gillows, one facing left and the other facing right, each having a scroll and a bolster at one end and lotus fan at the other, raised on tapering legs with gadrooned caps and original brass castors. English, circa 1815. Footnote: See Susan Stuart, Gillows of Lancaster and London 1730-1840, Antique Collectors’ Club, Woodbridge, 2008, Vol. II, p.355, pl E15 for a drawing room setting designed at Gillow Co., Oxford Street, in 1813, in which a pair of right- and left-handed day beds, with backs, face each other in the centre of the room.
