Set of ten American art deco mahogany dining chairs with streamline curved arms designed in 1938/1939 by Archibald Taylor A.I.D. for the Nob Hill residence of Mr. and Mrs. Robert H. Scanlon, San Francisco.
The eleven room modernist apartment, designed by Taylor, was featured in Architectural Digest Volume XII Issue 4, 1950 (see images).
Arm height/table clearance 27 inches.
These chairs were deaccessioned from the American furniture collection of the Museum of Fine Arts Boston in 2013, having been gifted to the museum in 1985 by noted collector John P. Axelrod who himself had acquired them in 1978 from San Francisco dealer David Dutra (see last image) who presumably purchased them straight from the estate of the late Mary Murray Scanlon who passed away in 1977..
Probably made by Ferrari, Fischer
Ferrari, San Francisco who are known to have made the revolving propeller-form magazine table from the Scanlon living room which had also been purchased by Axelrod from Dutra and gifted to the MFA Boston; now in the collection of the Wolfsonian at FIU.
Offered for sale as a set of ten.
Chairs appear to have been recovered once although it is possibly still the original fabric since 1939..

- Condition:Wear consistent with age and use. All chairs structurally sound. Frames are tight. One chair repaired. The fabric on all chairs is soiled and requires recovering. If requested we will refinish the mahogany legs and arms of each chair prior to shipping.
