About the Item
1940’s Elegant Dark Oak Bentwood Thonet Dining Chairs – Pair.
Founded in the early 19th Century by Michael Thonet, Thonet invented the process of steam bending wood under pressure and used this to design the classic bentwood chairs still in production today. In the 19th Century he had a large network of shops throughout Europe and was a huge furniture retailer. This is a stunning pair of 40’s original Thonet chairs in a stunning design and shape with the most exuberant steam bent seat supports. The chairs have been gently refurbished in our own workshops and are in excellent condition. The chairs have some minor markings and no clear Thonet label so they may be Mundus or an early similar maker.

All of our vintage products show the rich beauty and history of their life with the knocks and bumps of many years of use and we try to minimise restoration to keep every piece as original as possible.
