About the Item
Authentic vintage set of four Cesca cantilever dining chairs designed by Marcel Breuer and produced by Knoll International. Two of the chairs retain original Knoll International paper labels, confirming licensed production. One chair bears a hand-written pencil date reading “1965,” consistent with mid-1960s Knoll manufacture.
This iconic Bauhaus design features chrome-plated tubular steel cantilever frames with bentwood seat and back surrounds and cane panels. The cantilevered construction creates a light, floating profile while offering comfort and flexibility, making these chairs well-suited for dining use in residential, studio, or design-forward commercial interiors.
Condition
Good vintage condition overall, with wear consistent with age and use. Cane seats and backs are largely intact and present well, showing natural variation in tone. One chair has a small area of damage to the cane back panel; this is not immediately noticeable upon casual inspection but may benefit from future repair or re-caning to prevent further widening over time.
The chrome frames show light surface patina and minor areas of oxidation consistent with age, as visible in photographs. These areas appear largely cosmetic and may be reduced with gentle cleaning if desired. Bentwood frames display light finish wear and patina. All chairs are structurally sound.
One chair appears slightly taller than the others, suggesting it may have been acquired or produced at a different time, which is common for vintage sets assembled over time.
