About the Item

A set of four ‘Latonda’ chairs, 1987 Tubular metal structure with seat in orange stretched leather. Made by Alias, Italy. Sticky label ‘Alias Italy’ on the metal structure underneath the seat on each of them. Predominantly an accomplished architect, Mario Botta designed a range of furniture for the company Alias during the 1980s. His designs tend to include a strong sense of geometry, often being based on very simple shapes and sheet metals. Botta has been working with Alias since 1982. For them, he designed a series of five different chairs - two of his most famous chairs seconda and quinta now on show at the MoMA. An award-winning architect, he has published several works, and in 1996 founded the Academy of Swiss Architecture. He lives and works in Lugano. The ‘Latonda’ chair was part of a more niche production in 1987. Nowadays there are few examples of this gorgeous design available. Extremely comfortable and durable, the ‘latonda’ chairs are a timeless, elegant and rare piece.
