Tobia Scarpa (attributed) Dining Room Chairs in Ash and Plywood, Italy, 1970s
This exquisite set of six dining chairs, attributed to the renowned design duo Afra
Tobia Scarpa, showcases a harmonious blend of solid ash and elegantly crafted plywood. Designed around 1970s in Italy, each chair features the duo's signature geometric lines, offering a modern yet timeless aesthetic. Crafted with a firm and solid structure, these chairs not only provide durability but also exhibit a remarkable original patina that adds character and warmth to any dining space.
Afra (1937–2011) and Tobia Scarpa (born 1935) are celebrated Italian architects and designers known for their contributions to postmodern design. Afra Bianchin was born in Montebelluna, and Tobia Scarpa, the son of architect Carlo Scarpa, was born in Venice. They met at the Venice Institute of Architecture and later married.
In 1960, they began collaborating professionally, establishing a successful design studio and working for companies like Flos, B&B Italia, and Knoll. Their work has received numerous accolades, including the Compasso d’Oro, and they undertook commissions for brands like Benetton.
Their designs are recognized for blending modernist elegance and comfort with classical influences. Many of their iconic pieces are now housed in major museums, including the Museum of Modern Art and the Musée du Louvre.
