About the Item
Danish Oak and Seagrass Chairs by Hans Dau, Set of 6. 1960s.
Set of six Scandinavian Mid-Century Modern dining room chairs in solid turned Nordic oak with thick rope seats of dried seagrass (Lakeshore Bullrush).
Danish cabinetmaker Hans Dau (1871-1956) had his carpentry shop in the city of Ribe, Denmark. Among other things he made furniture for Ribe Cathedral, but he is also well known for his Dau-chair which was originally designed for the Townhall of Ribe.
The seagrass was harvested in nearby Ribe River and dried on the old zinc roofs near his workshop. All parts of the chair were handcrafted at the workshop. The braided seagrass rope was a popular choice as it was nice and warm to sit on.
This charming and rustic dining room set is a beautiful mix of Mid-Century Modern design and farmhouse style and consists of two armchairs and four side chairs.

Armchairs (DxWxH): 53 x 56 x 90.5 cm
All chairs are in good condition with original woven seats. Cleaned and all joints have been checked and some reglued. Patina consistent with age use.
