About the Item
From the Old Plank Collection, comes a Louis XVI style dining chair, made in France, by an elderly gentleman, who has been crafting French dining chairs his entire life. Our French Louis XVI style chairs are available in the flat, as we like to call it, or fully assembled and upholstered the old fashion way, with horsehair and shredded coco. Our Old Plank exclusive; hand-made authentic French Louis XVI style armchair, is also available as a side chair. For years we had been searching for the “right” size and “comfortable” French Louis XVI style side and arm chair. We located an exquisite set of circa 1800’s, from Chateau de I’ Oise in France. The Louis XVI style chair was just a little wider and deeper, plus the back was relaxed a few more degrees, which made for a perfect French Louis XVI style chair. They just sat the way you always thought they could, so, we decided to reproduce them the old fashion way, by hand. Notice the radius hand-carved corners at the front and if you look carefully, you will see that they are all slightly different and the edges have clear crisp carving marks, which is not what you would get by a machine-made import. All the connections are a proper mortise and tenon. Our French Louis XVI style chair has a correct horsehair padded seat cushion and a shredded coco padded back. *Seat height is 19.25" before being compressed.
