About the Item
Designed by Guido Faleschini for i4 Mariani and produced in Italy for the Pace Collection, the Tucroma chair has become one of the most recognizable and well-regarded seating designs of the 1970s through current-day. This set of four armchairs features their original light grey leather upholstery paired with polished chrome tubular frames, showcasing the clean, architectural lines that define the Tucroma series. Signed underneath with original Mariani Italy labels.
Hand-crafted in Italy, these sculptural armchairs feature their original light grey leather upholstery, wonderfully supple and inviting, paired with polished chrome cantilevered tubular frames that give the chairs their unmistakable 1970s Italian modern allure.
The signature wide saddle-leather back straps, also in matching light grey, elegantly bridge the seat and back, secured with hand-tied detailing that highlights the artisanal construction for which i4 Mariani is celebrated. The plush tufted seats and backs, and sleek architectural forms make the Tucroma both visually striking and exceptionally comfortable.
About the Designer:
Guido Faleschini, the star designer of i4 Mariani, created some of the most recognizable designs of the era including the Tucroma line and a celebrated suite of bedroom furniture for Hermès. Pieces from i4 Mariani have become highly collectible, especially in excellent, original condition and in rare colorways.
Why This Set Is Special:
While Tucroma chairs are already difficult to source due to their extraordinary demand among interior designers and collectors, light grey leather is far more uncommon than the traditional black or brown configurations. This understated and luxurious tone makes the set incredibly adaptable, ideal for interiors seeking sophistication without heaviness.
This is a magazine-cover-worthy seating ensemble that pairs beautifully with marble or travertine dining tables by Angelo Mangiarotti, Roche Bobois, or Maitland-Smith, as well as lacquered goatskin and parchment tables by Karl Springer or Steve Chase. Also stunning with chrome, glass, burl wood, or high-gloss Postmodern pieces.
Styling
Placement Ideas:
These versatile armchairs can serve as: Dining chairs, armchairs, side chairs, or occasional chairs, a throne chair moment in a dressing room or spacious closet, stylish reading chairs or a perch to soak in a view, accent seating in an entryway, living room, den or game room, chic seating in boutique hotel lobbies, cocktail bars, members clubs, creative studios, corporate offices, or luxury retail environments. Perfect for interiors embracing Mid-Century Modern, Contemporary, Postmodern, Scandinavian Modern, Neoclassical, or Transitional styles.
For collectors or designers building an Italian Modern narrative, consider pairing these with works by Leon Rosen for Pace, Charles Hollis Jones, Vladimir Kagan, Pierre Paulin, Willy Rizzo, Maison Jansen, Aldo Tura, and more.

View AllPair of Club Chairs by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani Italy, c 1970, Signed
By Claudio Salocchi, Sormani
Located in Los Angeles, CA
This newly reupholstered pair of club chairs by Claudio Salocchi for Sormani, circa 1970s, features graceful chrome frames with nubby white bouclé fabric. Signed with 1960s/ 1970s Sormani label as shown in photo gallery.
*Note, we have the matching sofa available in another listing.
The graceful frames share a design quality with Cassina's LC2 / LC3 design by Le Corbusier, as they are 'buckets of cushions' in similar fashion and comfort. However these Sormani lounge chairs feature some unique subtle details, such as the slight "twist" in the rear legs (see photos).
Signed with a Sormani label, this particular rare design is attributed to Claudio Salocchi. While there were several other famous designers who created works for Sormani in this time period, the style best matches Salocchi's work. For collectors looking for something unique and rare within a collection of 1960s/ 1970s Italian designs, this pair of easy chairs are an amazing opportunity.

Set of 6 Channel-Tufted Post-Modern Dining Chairs by Finesse, 1970s, Signed
By Steve Chase
Located in Los Angeles, CA
An intriguing and rare set of six vintage dining chairs by Finesse Furniture Ltd., comprised of four side chairs and two armchairs (also known as captain’s chairs). These sculptural, channel-tufted chairs exemplify 1970s Postmodern glamour and offer strong visual appeal with their plush, modular upholstery and cantilevered brass bases. The label from Finesse Furniture Ltd is intact and present on five of the six of the chairs.
The distinct silhouette of these chairs defined by stacked, contoured cushions and bold lines recalls the maximalist interiors popularized by designers like Steve Chase, while their construction and proportions also nod to the Art Deco revival and Hollywood Regency influences of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The unique design invites creative reupholstery: each channel-tufted section could be re-covered in contrasting tones or textures for a highly personalized, expressive look. These chairs would pair beautifully with a high-gloss lacquered or burl wood dining table, or a round glass or travertine-top table for a more eclectic aesthetic.
This sculptural set of dining chairs by Finesse Furniture Ltd would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Postmodern, or Hollywood Regency interior, but could also add a splash of glam to a Contemporary, Transitional, or even Art Deco inspired home or penthouse apartment. Also consider mixing them in with a Traditional or Minimalist space for a bold juxtaposition. Ideal for a commercial project such as a hotel dining room, members club, or design studio showroom. Consider using as dining chairs, cafe or breakfast table chairs, side chairs, conference or meeting room chairs...
