About the Item

Mario Marenco "Sapporo" chairs for Mobil Girgi, black leather and beech, Italy, 1970, set of two. The iconic "Sapporo" chair consists of an individual backrest, conceived with two vertical slats slightly separated. The immediate impact of this chair is vital: the sculptural backrest is connected with the flat front legs, creating a charming combination. With style close to the iconic "Africa" chairs by Afra Tobia Scarpa, the Italian beechwood combined with the black leather seat gives the chair a sense of class and elegance. Internationally known as an architect and designer, few people know that Mario Marenco (1993-2019) has been primarily a great Italian actor. He used to work in collaboration with some of the best manufacturers of the period, such as Poltrona Frau, Artemide, and Arflex. Our atelier carefully restored the chairs. Slight signs of use and time.

Gigi Sabadin “Pala” Dining Chairs for Emme, 1973, Set of 2
By Gigi Sabadin
Located in Lonigo, Veneto
Gigi Sabadin “Pala” dining chairs for Emme, wood, Italy, 1973, set of two Designed in 1973 by Italian architect and designer Gigi Sabadin, the “Pala” chairs embody the radical experimentation of the Italian Seventies. Their structure reduces the archetype of a chair to an essential gesture: two vertical planes intersected by a suspended circular seat in woven straw. The stark black lacquered wood, resting on a double-base support, highlights the tension between geometric rigor and the organic tactility of natural fiber. Sabadin’s design language resonates with the conceptual explorations of Archizoom, Superstudio, and Gianni Pettena, where furniture transcends function to become a spatial and architectural statement. The radical minimalism of the “Pala” also recalls the self-reduction principles of Enzo Mari...

Mario Marenco Sapporo chairs for Mobil Girgi Italy 1970
By Mobil Girgi, Mario Marenco
Located in Roosendaal, Noord Brabant
Wonderful set of Sapporo dining chairs designed by Mario Marenco for Mobil Girgi in Italy in 1970. These chairs are made from Italian walnut with a stunning grain pattern. The seats are original and have aged beautiful, showing a charming, worn-in leather look. What makes these chairs special is their unique design. They have a hammer-shaped backrest that looks nice and provides good support. The seats are wide and comfortable for long meals. One cool thing about these chairs is how they're put together. Two slim slats go from the top of the backrest all the way down to the bottom, where they connect with a horizontal slat. This design makes the chairs look simple and modern. Kindly note that the chairs are priced and sold in a set of 6 but we have 12 of these chairs available as shown on the pictures. Mario Marenco was born in 1933. He studied architecture in Naples and won research grants for Stockholm and Chicago. In 1960 he opened in Rome his own atelier of architecture and...
