About the Item

A super-stylish set of four Mid Century Butterfly chairs in lovely vintage condition. Likely made in the early 1960s in England, these strikingly attractive dining chairs were the must-have chairs of their day and now create a rare, authentic vintage wow-factor and will enhance any interior with Space Age shapeliness, fabulous colourful impact and a quintessential Mid-Century-cool aesthetic. Nicknamed 'Butterfly' chairs for the lovely shape of their backs, these chairs have become icons of vintage interiors for their unmistakably chic Mid-century look. Their sophisticated curvy lines, impactful colouring and black frames derive from iconic Italian designs, which influenced British furniture from the 1950s onwards. Rare to find a set in such good condition, these stylish chairs feature large and curved, beautifully bold, bright red leatherette seats, curved plywood butterfly-shaped backs and lovely, black-painted wooden, distinctive A-Line frames with round tapering front legs, shapely rectangular back legs and rectangular stretchers to all sides. All in all, this really fabulous and show-stopping set of vintage dining chairs will add exemplary Mid Century styling to any setting. The price is for the set of four, please contact us to arrange a price for a pair. CONDITION These chairs are in good-to-very-good vintage condition. They are structurally sound and sturdy with only the most minor movement in them and some minor to-be-expected marks and bumps to show their age, including a few marks to the reflective protective lacquer on the seat covers, marks and bumps to the plywood backs and some minor marks to the frames. Being vintage chairs, their 1950s/1960s design prioritised style over longevity (hence their rarity now) and so should be treated with care and respect, as they will not be as robust as less stylish and more modern chairs. Overall they’re a stunning, rare and super-stylish set of dining chairs and if well looked after they should last another 60+ years - please see the photos.
