Tellus Model Chairs 1960s manufactured and marketed by IKEA. Birch Wood dark walnut finish According to IKEA itself "A durable and stylish kitchen chair, always up-to-date, easy to place and comfortable". A nice chair from Ikea in birch. The model is called "Tellus". The simple construction and uncomplicated design really make these chairs timeless, fitting in most decorating schemes, from rustic to the more modern. They first appeared in IKEA's catalogue in 1966 and last appeared in 1978 and were available in a selection of colours and finishes. Typically we associate IKEA with inexpensive and utilitarian pieces that are ideal for a first apartment, packaged in plain boxes with deceptively simple manuals on how to assemble the furniture yourself. However, since IKEA opened their doors in Älmhult in 1958, several designs have become collectors’ items. Through collaborations with well-known designers, IKEA made design history by making couture furniture available to everyone. Today, many of these designs are real classics, and sell for hundreds of dollars at auction. These chairs are considered one of the IKEA's Most Expensive Designs.
