About the Item

Suite of Four Chairs, Model 715 Designed by Gustav Siegel in Vienna in 1899 and executed by Jacob Josef Kohn around 1905, this set of four bentwood chairs belongs to Siegel’s most celebrated seating series, which epitomized the refined aesthetic of the Viennese Secession. Each chair measures 94 × 48 × 43 cm (H × W × D). Crafted in bentwood, the pieces showcase Siegel’s hallmark design language — a synthesis of structural lightness and elegant proportion. Additional note: These four chairs are complemented by two armchairs (model 715/F) and a sofa (model 715/C) from the same series, all upholstered in Backhausen fabric ( design by Kolo Moser, 1905). Context: First presented at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1900, Siegel’s seating designs won the gold medal and are now considered milestones of Art Nouveau furniture. Their clarity of form and innovation influenced Otto Wagner, Koloman Moser, Josef Hoffmann, and Marcel Kammerer, establishing a vocabulary that shaped modern furniture design.
