The Story behind the Jetsons Dining Chair:
The Jetsons Dining Chair is my ode to the futurism of the 1960s, as seen in the Jetsons cartoon strip of that era. So, a bit of Mid-Century Modernism plus swooping curves. For me, typical dining chairs often struggle to find elegant ways to provide support for the seat and the back rest. It usually seems like there's too much stuff back there. With this chair, the long back leg that rises plant-like, together with the sturdy member that supports the back rest, is my answer here. A real bonus with the Jetsons dining chair is the small flex you get from leaning against the back rest. To avoid any instability associated with a three-legged chair, I made the front legs project out to the side. The result is a seat platform stable enough to tap dance on, although I haven't tried that yet.
The seat front is 17.5 inches high. The two woods used are walnut and ash. The curved pieces are real wood, the result of an industrial process that involves laminations and glue. The main joinery is literally nuts and bolts, with bolt heads recessed and concealed under wooden plugs which I've chosen to accentuate with contrasting wood.

Jambosco
Jambosco is based in northern Indiana, a land abounding in corn fields and RV factories, where you might park your car next to an Amish buggy at the grocery store, or get invited to your neighbor's quinceanera party. The vibrancy of contrasting cultural ways pushes us to reconsider the well-trod paths of convention. Style-wise, the dominant influence for Jambosco is mid-century modernism. All pieces are American-made by craftsmen in northern Indiana. James Loewen is the founder of Jambosco. Born in the Congo and raised on several continents, he studied industrial design in Milan Italy, has designed furniture and other objects for many years, and now lives in Goshen Indiana.
