About the Item

This very rare set of ten original Nørregaard dining chairs, designed in the 1976 by the renowned Danish architects and design duo Friis Moltke, represents a rare and significant example of Danish modernist furniture. Manufactured and stamped by Nørregaard Møbelfabrik in Rødding, Denmark, the ensemble consists of four armchairs and six side chairs, all executed with the refined craftsmanship of a Danish cabinetmaker. Constructed in solid pine, the chairs display the robust yet elegantly restrained character that defines Friis Moltke’s architectural and design ethos. The wood has acquired a beautifully warm patina over time, its grain enriched by decades of use. The seats, woven in original paper cord, remain a testament to the traditional Danish material vocabulary that harmonizes durability with tactile charm. The design balances strength and simplicity, reflecting Friis Moltke’s architectural clarity while allowing the natural materials to speak with integrity. Their architectural practice, rooted in functionalism and brutalist tendencies, translates here into a furniture design of sculptural presence and enduring utility. A distinguished and well-preserved set, these dining chairs exemplify the best of Danish modernism—where material honesty, craftsmanship, and architectural thought converge into timeless design.
