About the Item

Early 19th c. 4 Biedermeier chairs with inlaid curved spindle backs, an upholstered seat, on turned front legs and sabre back legs. Ebonized wood inlay and detail throughout elements of these chairs results in a very crisp and stylish look. Dimensions: 31.75"h x 17"w x 17.25"d, 19.25"h (to seat) Condition: Fair, areas of staining and distress to upholstery, nicks and scuffs to wood consistent with age and use. Would benefit from reupholstering. Provenance: Furniture and Decorative Arts from the Laura Pels Collection, River House, NYC Literature: Laura Pels (1931-2023) was a renowned benefactor for nonprofit theater through the Laura Pels International Foundation for Theater. which funded Playwrights Horizons and Roundabout Theater in Manhattan, the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, in addition to providing grants and direct funding to theater arts institutions throughout the world.
