About the Item

For sale is a vintage set of 4 Mid Century Modern “Wishbone” Chairs by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen Søn, circa 1970. Each chair measures approximately 22"W x 20"D x 29.5"H, with a seat height of 18.25"H. This iconic set has been lovingly used for decades and remains in basically original condition, showing expected age-related wear to the wood and Danish cord seats that only adds to their authentic character. Please refer to all photos for details. All structurally stable Designed in 1949, the Wishbone Chair (also known as the CH24) is one of Wegner’s most celebrated creations and a true symbol of Danish Modern design. Its instantly recognizable Y-shaped backrest, curved top rail, and handwoven paper cord seat offer both sculptural beauty and everyday functionality. The design was inspired by Ming Dynasty chairs yet translated through Wegner’s masterful eye for simplicity, organic form, and comfort. Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007), often referred to as the “Master of the Chair,” was a leading figure in the Mid Century Danish Modern movement. His philosophy was rooted in craftsmanship, functionality, and timeless design, resulting in more than 500 chair designs throughout his career. Wegner collaborated extensively with Carl Hansen Søn, a family-run Danish furniture manufacturer founded in 1908, which continues to produce his Wishbone Chair to this day. This vintage set would elevate a wide range of interiors, from Mid Century Modern, Scandinavian, Minimalist, and Japandi spaces to more Eclectic, Bohemian, or even Modern Farmhouse styles. The natural wood tones and woven seats pair effortlessly with clean-lined dining tables, rustic farmhouse settings, or even sleek contemporary lofts. Whether styled in a dining room, breakfast nook, or open-plan kitchen, these chairs instantly create a warm and inviting atmosphere while making a strong design statement. This is a rare opportunity to own a true design classic with history and character, perfect for collectors, interior designers, or anyone seeking to invest in authentic Danish Modern craftsmanship
