About the Item
For restoration. Fine set of eight Period Federal side chairs, mahogany with serpentine crest rails, pierced vase form splat backs, serpentine seats upholstered in old horse hair with individual hand hammered brass tacks in a scalloped design and web construction. The chairs with mortise and tenon construction, box stretcher and raised on tapering legs. Ca. 1800-1820 Hartford CT.
Dimensions: 21 1/2" wide x 20.5" deep x 38 1/4" high, 18 1/4" seat height
Condition: Please see detail photos. Various signs of age and use include previous alterations and restorations, stains to upholstery and would benefit from fresh fabric, wear, wood losses and old breaks, scratches, missing a few brass tacks, corner chip/loss as well as other age related losses and wear necessitating restoration. Despite the wear, the chairs retain an admirable Federal form and presentation.
