A Set of Eight Mid Century High Back Lisse Dining Chairs Designed by Tim Bates for Pieff
England Circa 1970’s
These fine chairs, unusual for being a set of 8, are a mid century design classic produced in England at the Pieff factory in Lye in the west midlands c.1976. Newly upholstered in a cream nubuck the tapering high backs of the chairs contrast beautifully with the chrome plated brass frames, spreading feet and arm supports, giving these pieces a very sculptural look and a relaxed yet luxurious aesthetic. These chairs are extremely comfortable and ideal for dining or in the office, the long back being flexible with adds to the comfort of these chairs.
Pieff's chief furniture designer, Tim Bates, was responsible for the Lisse design and it is regarded as a classic of British modernist design, the chairs being both aesthetically interesting and sturdy and well-balanced. Ideal as a way of introducing some mid century flavour in to the home, these extremely stylish chairs with their new upholstery which is an easy clean fabric are ready to place within the home.

French most definitely Parisian circa 1940-50.
The chairs of deep and comfortable form with cloud-shaped rising seat backs and arm supports of rounded profile. The chairs are fully upholstered in bouclé, including the separate cushions, and stand on square plinth feet. Taking some of their design inspiration from the seat furniture of the Art Deco period, these chairs are of mid century date and undoubtedly of French origin.
These chairs are of a peculiarly French form known as the club chair. Chairs of this sort were designed by many of the great French designers of the Art Deco period and later and the present chairs incorporate stylistic elements which relate to designs from two the 20th century's greatest furniture designers, Jean Royère and Jean-Michel Frank.
