Set of Four postmodern dining chairs by Dutch manufacturer Castelijn, attributed to acclaimed designer Gijs Bakker, circa 1980s. These distinctive pieces showcase the harmonious blend of minimalist sensibilities w/ emerging postmodern industrial design that defined the era. Hand-selected from the Netherlands, each chair represents an unconventional approach to seating design.
Curved ebony-stained wood backs create dramatic silhouettes above supple black leather seats, all supported by angular three-legged black metal frames. The sculptural base construction demonstrates innovative engineering while the organic curves of the wood backs soften the industrial aesthetic. Each chair balances comfort w/ artistic expression through its bold geometric language.
Age-appropriate wear including scratches and minor chips adds authentic character consistent w/ use over four decades. Matching Castelijn table (LU922445611762) available separately. Five chairs available individually for those seeking flexible seating arrangements.

Gijs Bakker emerged as one of the Netherlands' most influential postmodern designers during the 1980s, co-founding the legendary Droog Design collective in 1993. His work with Castelijn represented a pivotal moment in Dutch furniture design, bridging the gap between traditional craftsmanship and emerging postmodern aesthetics. Bakker's approach emphasized conceptual rigor combined w/ playful geometric forms, challenging conventional notions of furniture design.
