About the Item

Designed by Jerry Johnson and manufactured by Landes Manufacturing Company in Los Angeles, this set of four 'Arcadia' chairs captures the bold spirit of 1970s American modernism. Featuring tubular chrome frames with a distinctive continuous-line silhouette, the design offers both visual lightness and sculptural presence. The swooping arms and cantilevered base lend a sense of movement and comfort, embodying the relaxed yet refined ethos of California design in the Space Age era. The chairs retain vintage upholstery—a vivid, psychedelic swirl pattern in citrus tones of avocado green, ochre, and white—adding a graphic punch that nods to Pop and Op Art influences. The sling-style construction allows the cushions to float within the frame, delivering a uniquely casual elegance reminiscent of Milo Baughman and Marcel Breuer’s tubular steel experiments. Equally suited for dining, lounge, or office settings, this set would make a statement in a modernist, post-modern, or Hollywood Regency interior. A standout example of American mid-century ingenuity, with celebrity provenance. Set of 6 Channel-Tufted Post-Modern Dining Chairs by Finesse, 1970s, Signed
By Steve Chase
Located in Los Angeles, CA
An intriguing and rare set of six vintage dining chairs by Finesse Furniture Ltd., comprised of four side chairs and two armchairs (also known as captain’s chairs). These sculptural, channel-tufted chairs exemplify 1970s Postmodern glamour and offer strong visual appeal with their plush, modular upholstery and cantilevered brass bases. The label from Finesse Furniture Ltd is intact and present on five of the six of the chairs. The distinct silhouette of these chairs defined by stacked, contoured cushions and bold lines recalls the maximalist interiors popularized by designers like Steve Chase, while their construction and proportions also nod to the Art Deco revival and Hollywood Regency influences of the late 1970s and early 1980s. The unique design invites creative reupholstery: each channel-tufted section could be re-covered in contrasting tones or textures for a highly personalized, expressive look. These chairs would pair beautifully with a high-gloss lacquered or burl wood dining table, or a round glass or travertine-top table for a more eclectic aesthetic. This sculptural set of dining chairs by Finesse Furniture Ltd would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Postmodern, or Hollywood Regency interior, but could also add a splash of glam to a Contemporary, Transitional, or even Art Deco inspired home or penthouse apartment. Also consider mixing them in with a Traditional or Minimalist space for a bold juxtaposition. Ideal for a commercial project such as a hotel dining room, members club, or design studio showroom. Consider using as dining chairs, cafe or breakfast table chairs, side chairs, conference or meeting room chairs...

Exceptionally Unique Set of Breteau Wrought Iron Chairs, c 1955 France, Signed
By Breteau
Located in Los Angeles, CA
An exceptionally unique set of wrought iron chairs stamped 'BRETEAU' with rope corded seats, circa 1955 France. A similar chair sold in 2009 at Christie's, sold as 'Jean Luc Breteau'. This chair was also stamped and hand crafted in the same fashion, only difference with a leather wrapped seat. It sold for well over the estimate given by Christie's, with Buyers Premium and accounting for inflation the single chair cost around $9,000 to the lucky winning bidder. This set, even more special as a rare set of four, allowing the opportunity to use around a cafe or center table. Three of the four chairs are stamped on the upper circular backrest, as can be seen in the photos. Each chair exhibits unique characteristics throughout consistent with hand-crafted and hand-hammered items. Exceptionally unique, and exquisitely refined. These unique Breteau iron chairs would work great in a Mid-Century Modern, Scandanavian Modern or Danish Modern home or penthouse apartment but could also look fantastic in a Contemporary or Post-Modern room. Also consider mixing it up in a Traditional, Transitional, Classical or Art Deco room with a splash of juxtaposition. Would also be an apt choice in a commercial project such as a hotel lobby lounge or members club, creative design studio or high-rise executive office. Consider using as side chairs, dining, cafe or breakfast table chairs...
