About the Item

A set of six original French Mid-Century Modernist tall dining chairs featuring angular lines with a curved moustache shaped top, elegant tapered front cabriole legs and splay back legs. The chairs are streamline in overall shape, featuring tall backs with an artistic, subtle narrowing towards the top. They feature unique stepped nickel metal decorative accents on the top crest. The top wood crest is both aesthetic as well as functional and serves to protect the upholstery from finger prints when handling the chairs. These chairs are solid, comfortable and well made. They are strong and sturdy. The fabric upholstery is original to the chair. It was painted for a photo shoot and thus needs to be reupholstered. All chair frames are finished in a semi gloss lacquer. The wood grain varies and lends charming warm tones of cognac, sienna / burnt orange /honey /brown color. They can be used as dining chairs, side chairs, office chairs, bistro chair, Windsor chair, wishbone chair, in a Brooklyn loft, French Modern, Moderne, Art Deco, Italian design, Industrial, Country cottage, English countryside, Traditional, Transitional, Classic, vintage French, Biedermeier, Contemporary or any setting. seat Size : ~16.5" deep x 17.75" wide x 19" ht.

    Refinished. Wear consistent with age and use. Refinished wood frames in a semi gloss lacquer and in good condition, minor imperfections, grain lines, scuffs commensurate with age. Upholstery must be re-done as the fabric was painted for a photo shoot. Back fabric panels were roughly attached.

A beautiful set of six original French Art Deco tall back blonde wood and nickeled bronze dining chairs, attributed to Rene Prou. Tall elegant backs with curvilinear top crest and shield shape lower backrest, featuring elegant sculptural cabriole front legs and tapered splay back legs. An inset nickeled bronze side bar flanks and accents the back rest, granting this chair a very unusual and unique style. These chairs are skillfully designed, well crafted and of solid construction. The cushion seats and backs in desert taupe/ mauve color naugahyde upholstery are in good vintage condition but are original and of the period.
