About the Item

A set of six Portuguese dining chairs, comprised of five side chairs and one armchair. Mid-18th century together with four reproduction chairs, matching almost perfectly. The chairs are fknown as Jacaranda chairs of the period of Jose I. Each with a shaped pierced back surmounted by a plume feather top above floral decorations. The seat which would have originally been upholstered in tooled leather is now covered in vintage Fortuny. The reprodution chairs have beige fabric seats. The whole is raised on a shaped and carved apron, terminating in cabriolet legs with pad feet. The legs are joined by a beautifully shaped stretcher. This set of chairs is remarkable and rare. The four reproduction chairs, one armchair and 3 side chairs complete the set of ten Chairs- are clearly shown with beige seats rather than the red Fortuny seats, of the 18th century chairs. The reproductions are very well done, hand carved in Brazilian Rosewood to mimik the Jacaranda wood of the 18th Century. The dimensions are exactly like the antique chairs. Arm dimensions: 27" W x 48.5" H x 22" D x 20.5" SH x 27.5" AH. Side dimensions: 21.5" W x 46.5" H x 19.5" D x 20" SH.

Condition:
Reupholstered. Wear consistent with age and use. The chairs have been recovered, polished and waxed. They are in great condition. The seats of the four additional chairs do not match the set of six, this Fortuny fabric is no longer available. To make them a set, all seats would have to be recovered.
