Ton, set of six armchairs, fabric, bentwood beech, Czech Republic, 1960s
This elegant set of dining chairs, manufactured by Ton, features a wonderful bentwood frame. The round shape of the back and armrests surrounds the sitter. The seat and backrest are upholstered in a red, patterned fabric.
TON was founded after World War Two in former Thonet factories and continued with the furniture making tradition set up by Thonet. In the 1960s, TON asked various architects to contribute to research and developments of new designs using the technology of bentwood and leading to new, more contemporary designs.
