Stunning walnut dining table and six matching dining chairs by Pier Luigi Colli, handmade by the famed 'Fratelli Marelli' atelier in Cantu, Italy circa 1950.
The dining table is finished in solid and veneered italian walnut with a protective glass top, the solid walnut legs feature intricately carved stylised creatures and animals. An homage to nature's organic forms, and are finished with brass 'thimble' form caps to the foot of each leg. There are a few ornaments missing at the ends of the side bars of the table, nothing too obvious or unsettling to the eye and commensurate with the age and originality of this example. Please refer to detail photos.
The six matching walnut chairs have had their upholstery completely restored with authentic period materials to match the original, including new sea grass and coir packing, new hemp seat support webbing and beautiful new mohair upholstery. Some of the elegant walnut chair frames display some small signs of old period restorations, the seat frames are solid and ready to use. There are a few small chips to the bottom of the legs which could be covered by brass glides.
This dining table and chairs formed part of a matching series of furniture designed by Colli and fabricated by 'Fratelli Marelli'. We sold the matching credenza from this series which has the same form legs as this dining table, this credenza design was also a featured lot in the design auction at Dorotheum auction house in Vienna in 2008 confirming the designer. Please see final image for reference.
Condition: Between good and fair. There are no structural issues everything is now solid but there are a few small losses to some of the hand carved elements and some restoration to the joints to make them solid and secure once again as the old glue had dried out in some areas and needed reinforcing. . The chairs have been completely reupholstered so they are in nice condition, there is an old restoration here and there to the frame joints to make them solid and secure. The original protective glass top has some scratching commensurate with originality age and use.

- Condition:Reupholstered. Repaired: Some of the joints to both the table and chairs have been restored in our workshop to make them sturdy once again as the old glue had dried out in places. There are also some old ancient restorations to the joints made a long time ago . Wear consistent with age and use. Minor losses. The uholstery on all six chairs has been fully restored including new hemp seat support webbing, new seagrass and coconut coir packing as per the original specification and beautiful new mohair uholstery. Condition of this set is Good to Fair.
