About the Item
Seven Cedars Co. has re-contextualized vintage 1940s oak chapel chairs with back pockets in a limited edition run of 50. These elegant chairs have been modernized and treated in the Japanese fire-charring technique of Yakisugi or Shou-sugi-ban, leaving them with a charred satin black finish. This produces a unique black color, and wears the wood capturing the destructive process in subtle ways. A steel loop holds the seat together making the wood strengthen with the firing process. A great addition as a solo accent chair or as a set. Each piece is numbered and branded. The detail of the pocket in back, originally for hymnals, is excellent for guest menus at a dinner party, and take a familiar shaker slat back shape in an unexpected direction. Made in the Hudson Valley each chair is priced individually.
Seven Cedars is a small design and art studio in the Hudson Valley of NY. Headed by a husband and wife team with decades of experience in the arts, they have taken their shared love of nature and design and launched the company in 2020.

Seven Cedars Co.
Seven Cedars NY is a collaboration between William Duke Larson and Dylan Abrams, a husband and wife team who focused on creating homewares that emphasize uniqueness and character, as well as offering found items with rich history. All hand-crafted items are made in small batches on site. WOOD All wood is locally sourced and milled. We only harvest wood from naturally storm felled trees, both on our land and our surrounding neighbors in the Hudson Valley. Time worn techniques are utilized to emphasize the decay and impermanence of organic materials. In that vein, our stock continuously changes, as previously milled pieces mature and are ready to harvest. STONE
The collection of concrete objects, on the other hand, poses questions about permanence, longevity and strength. Shapes range from solid, heavy and brutalist vases to the ethereal fine edges of our infinity bowls. Splashes of color and veining interact with the cool grays of aggregate and concrete, infusing the seriousness of the material with a sense of whimsy.
