About the Item
Oak Footstool by Heinz Heger for PGH Erzgebirge, Annaberg-Buchholz, 1960s – Grey Patinated Version
Rare grey-patinated oak footstool designed by Heinz Heger for PGH Erzgebirge, Annaberg-Buchholz. Beautiful hand-woven rope seat and naturally weathered finish with soft, authentic ageing.
This footstool was designed by Heinz Heger for PGH Erzgebirge Arts and Crafts in Annaberg-Buchholz, East Germany, in the 1960s. This particular example features a striking grey, naturally aged patina that gives the piece a soft, muted character distinct from the warmer oak versions. The lighter, desaturated surface highlights the grain structure and creates a refined, wabi-sabi aesthetic that blends extremely well with contemporary interiors.
Executed in solid oak, the frame displays the typical craftsmanship of PGH Erzgebirge: gently splayed legs, rounded edges and meticulous joinery. The structure remains visually light while still offering excellent stability. The exposed construction details underline the handmade quality associated with East German craft production of the period.
The seat is woven in natural rope, arranged in a traditional grid pattern. The cord shows subtle age and soft tonality, complementing the greyed surface of the oak. Together, the materials create a harmonious, organic appearance that feels both authentic and architectural.
Versatile in use, the stool works well as a footrest, low occasional seat, bedside accent or decorative element in a living space. Its naturally weathered tone pairs beautifully with Scandinavian modern, rustic minimalism, chalet interiors, coastal settings and wabi-sabi inspired spaces.
The piece is in good vintage condition with patina consistent with age, including natural grey weathering, small colour variations, minor wear and slight irregularities in the rope — all contributing to its unique visual character.
A particularly beautiful and atmospheric example of Heinz Heger’s work, distinguished by its genuine grey patination.
