About the Item

very important and rare PK33 stool designed by Poul Kjaerholm in red-brown leather. Manufactured by E. Kold Christensen, Denmark, ca 1960ies, with makers emblem. The designs of the famous Dane Poul Kjaerholm have had great influence on postwar design. Trained as a cabinetmaker Kjaerholm would study at the royal fine arts academy in Copenhagen with professors Hals Wegner and Jorn Utzon in the 1950ies, before opening his own studio. Characteristic for Kjaerholm‘s design work is the use of bent steel for the frames and constructions of his furniture, mostly in combination with natural wicker or leather. With the use of steel and the manufacturing qualities of E. Kopf Christensen Poul Kjaerholm was able to contribute to Danish furniture design with the creation of a different style in danish modern furniture. In E. Kold-Christensen he found a friend and the company who would produce amd help develop the furniture of Poul Kjaerholm until 1980. From 1982 on Fritz Hansen under license continues the production of many of Kjaerholm designs. The pk33 stool is manufactured in the 1960ies, with the companies enblem in the bottom side of the steel base. The upholstery is in red-brown („oxblood“) leather, the filling of the stool has been replaced. Otherwise good original condition with sighs of use appropriate to age and wear.
