Ensemble de salon en bois sculpté – Circa 1880 Superbe ensemble de mobilier de salon en bois patiné, finement sculpté de masques grotesques, comprenant : Un canapé Une paire de fauteuils à dossier large (dont un transformé en rocking-chair) Les accoudoirs détachés en balustre courbé confèrent élégance et originalité à l’ensemble. Les pieds avant se terminent par des sabots, tandis que les pieds arrière sont arqué et recouverts de cuir noir (usure visible). Dimensions : Canapé : H. 94 cm L. 120 cm P. 57 cm Mobilier colonial : un héritage à travers le temps « Le mobilier colonial est présent sur tout le sous-continent indien, dans des musées et des collections privées à travers le monde », affirme Jacinta Moorthy. Contrairement aux idées reçues, ce style n’a pas été introduit par les Britanniques, mais par les Portugais dès le milieu du XVIe siècle. Il englobe ainsi des influences portugaises, hollandaises, françaises et britanniques, témoignant d’une fusion unique entre les traditions locales et les styles européens. The front legs terminate in sabots, while the arched back legs are covered in black leather (showing signs of wear). Dimensions: Sofa: H. 94 cm W. 120 cm D. 57 cm Colonial Furniture: A Legacy Through Time “Colonial furniture can be seen across the Indian subcontinent, in museums and homes across the globe,” states Jacinta Moorthy. Contrary to popular belief, this style did not originate with the British but was first introduced to India by the Portuguese in the mid-1500s. It encompasses influences from the Portuguese, Dutch, French, and British, blending European design with local craftsmanship. A rare and historically rich furniture set.
