About the Item

Exceptional 19th-Century French Empire Salon Set Stamped Maigret Presenting a rare and exquisite French Empire-style salon set, attributed to Alexandre Maigret, a distinguished cabinetmaker and upholsterer active from the late 18th to early 19th century. This elegant three-piece ensemble, consisting of a gracefully curved settee and a pair of matching fauteuils, is a testament to the refined craftsmanship of the Napoleonic era. Stamped with the Maigret mark, this set embodies the grandeur and sophistication of Empire furniture, featuring rich mahogany construction, gilt-bronze ormolu mounts, and sweeping scroll arms with finely carved acanthus details. The saber legs provide a striking yet balanced silhouette, enhancing the overall neoclassical aesthetic. The original upholstery, a distinguished silk fabric in salmon tones with gold trim, remains in excellent condition, complementing the deep patina of the wood. Alexandre Maigret, who held the prestigious title of Guardian of Crown Furniture, supplied furniture to imperial residences such as Fontainebleau, Saint-Cloud, the Tuileries, and Trianon. His works, renowned for their elegance and impeccable craftsmanship, were commissioned by Empress Marie-Louise and the Duchess of Berry. Pieces attributed to Maigret are now housed in prestigious collections, including Malmaison and Fontainebleau. This salon set is an exceptional investment for collectors, decorators, and connoisseurs of historical French furniture. It captures the regal charm of the Napoleonic era, offering both museum-worthy authenticity and timeless sophistication.

Late 19th-Century Eclectic Paraguayan Salon Suite – Italian Renaissance Revival
Located in Rio De Janeiro, BR
Late 19th-Century Eclectic Paraguayan Salon Suite – Italian Renaissance Revival Meets Criollo Spanish Colonial – Five Pieces An extraordinary and eclectic five-piece salon suite from Paraguay, crafted in the late 19th century, uniting two powerful stylistic lineages: the sculptural drama of the Italian Renaissance Revival and the expressive, hand-tooled vocabulary of South American criollo Spanish Colonial craftsmanship. Composed of one settee, two armchairs, and two side chairs, this ensemble stands as a unique testament to the artistic fusion characteristic of elite regional workshops of the period. The tall ladder-back structures reveal an unmistakable Renaissance influence: architectural symmetry, medallion crowns, and carved foliate scrolls reminiscent of Italian 16th-century ornament. These classical elements are interwoven with the warmth and boldness of criollo carving—deep reliefs, rhythmic floral clusters, rustic vigor, and the unmistakable hand-made quality of South American master artisans. Both the armchairs and the settee feature zoomorphic heads carved at the ends of the armrests, a striking element that bridges Renaissance heraldic tradition with the expressive symbolic language found throughout Colonial Latin American furniture...
