About the Item

Kre and the Dragon Dragon Kre is a bold statement piece and commands attention. Visually dynamic, predatory in stance yet comfortable in use, Kre takes design, art and functional ergonomic performance to a whole new level. Sit within and take a journey to another dimension. Inspired by many different co-existing levels, animalistic yet fluid, through a curve line in a journey transition made to fit the human form. Dragon Kre is a unique foundry cast and patinated bronze sculptural chair work with the sublime semi-translucent effect of the mottled patina – the skin of the Dragon, accentuated highlights and the glint of polished bronze shining through. It has been hollow cast using the ‘lost-wax’ process, based on the original carved wooden template form designed and sculpted by Alun Heslop. Why the dragon? This chair is not fire breathing although it most certainly is forged by fire and is almost creature like in its form and its foreboding sense of scale. It is not a piece for the faint hearted and it is not a small chair in terms of size or weight. At approximately 100kg perhaps not as heavy as you may at first think for a cast metal chair of this volume due to the lost wax foundry production with semi hollow voids within the body of the piece. Hand carved and sculpted assembled central location bench form created from solid kiln dried walnut wood I seek to create pure un-diluted forms that speak with passion and resonate with our desire to experience something truly unique; an innate expression of wonder and beauty rooted in a pragmatic approach in the truth to materials and working process. I design and hand make, carve and sculpt wooden seating objects whilst also working with artisan foundries in order to realise my designs in other materiality, creating functional works of art for the 21st century and beyond. “It is one thing to have an idea in one’s mind, it is another thing altogether to be able to translate that concept into a manifest reality.”.
