Danish Art Nouveau Lounge Chair in Oak and Papercord, 1930s.
Lovely country style low armchair made in Denmark in the 1930s in solid oak and paper cord. This chair is from a period known as "Danish skønvirke" which corresponds to the international Art Nouveau period. Skønvirke is a Danish decorative style from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. It combines Arts and Crafts ideals with Nordic materials, featuring handcrafted details, organic and floral forms, and restrained ornament inspired by nature and national romanticism.
This 1930s Danish armchair is crafted from solid oak with a hand-woven papercord seat, exemplifying early 20th century Scandinavian craftsmanship. The chair features gently curved armrests supported by turned front posts, lending both strength and elegance. Its ladder-back design is accented with softly carved crest rails, while the warm oak patina highlights the natural grain of the wood. The papercord seat provides a subtle contrast in texture and tone, offering durability and comfort. Balanced proportions, traditional joinery, and restrained decorative details reflect the functional yet refined aesthetic characteristic of Danish furniture from the Skønvirke period.
Very good original condition with natural patina and wear. Joinery has been checked. Cleaned and lightly polished.
